Home > About STNC > History   Our History   In 2003, STNC backbone networks were tested in collaboration with Australian NDC (Network Data Center). In 2002, the second milestone was successfully achieved, the construction of IP-based broadband network in Shanghai area. The network has been in operation since the second quarter of 2003. STNC therefore includes dual backbone networks that are ATM and IP-based. In 2002, STNC interconnected via BGP with the backbone networks of China Telecom, CNC (China Network Communications) , and Shanghai Exchange Centre. In November 2000, Shanghai Science and Technology Network Communications Corporation was officially established and authorized to operate Shanghai Science and Technology Network (STNC). In 1998, the first milestone was successfully achieved , the construction of ATM-based fibre optics backbone network in Shanghai . In 1995, the Shanghai Government decided to construct a large metropolitan broadband network in Shanghai, known as Shanghai Science and Technology Network (STNC).
